Gua Sha is an ancient East Asian healing technique that uses a smooth-edged tool to gently massage and stimulate the skin and underlying tissues. This therapeutic practice promotes circulation, releases muscle tension, and supports the body's natural healing processes.
During a Gua Sha session, specialized strokes are applied to specific areas of the body, encouraging blood flow and lymphatic drainage. Many clients experience relief from chronic pain, reduced inflammation, and a deep sense of relaxation. The treatment may create temporary redness (called "sha") as stagnant blood and toxins are brought to the surface—a sign that healing is taking place.
Benefits may include:

Relief from muscle tension and chronic pain
Improved circulation and lymphatic flow
Reduced inflammation
Enhanced immune function
Stress reduction and deep relaxation
Improved skin tone and radiance (facial Gua Sha)

Whether you're seeking relief from physical discomfort or looking to enhance your overall wellness, Gua Sha offers a gentle yet powerful approach to healing.

Workshops and Classes

Workshops and classes to deepen and embody some of the basic wisdom and principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

After earning her undergraduate degree in Foods and Nutrition from San Diego State University and spending four years working in a hospital setting, Alisa realized that conventional approaches weren’t creating the lasting impact on wellness she hoped to achieve. Seeking a deeper way to serve, she joined the Peace Corps and spent transformative years in rural Bolivia, where she discovered communities deeply connected to nature and ancestral wisdom. That experience planted a seed—a longing to understand the body’s innate healing capacity and to support people in truly sustainable ways. Returning home, Alisa worked with the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program, counseling families on nutrition and breastfeeding. It was during this time she found Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and began her journey into Traditional Chinese Medicine. Over six years and thousands of clinical hours, Alisa relearned the body from a holistic perspective—and her education became deeply personal when she became pregnant with her first daughter while still a student at Pacific College. Experiencing pregnancy during her training and feeling firsthand the effectiveness of acupuncture for many of her discomforts and symptoms transformed her understanding of this medicine. After a subsequent loss and a second pregnancy, applying TCM principles to her own journey shaped her dream of supporting other families with this ancient, effective medicine. Today, with over a decade of practice and a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Alisa brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to her work. As a Licensed Acupuncturist and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), she offers families the integrated, compassionate care she wished for during her own motherhood journey.

At PUSH San Diego, Alisa is honored to walk alongside families during some of life’s most vulnerable and transformative moments, offering the kind of care that honors both ancient wisdom and modern understanding.
